The starting point and also the final destination of the walk is the hamlet of Maiori Ponteprimario.
Once at the bridge joining the village with the main road Via Nuova Chiunzi, go straignt on for about 500 metres and, after a hairpin bend on the left, climb the steps on the right and walk past the group of houses in the hamlet of Santa Croce. You are in Tramonti, in the hamlet of Picara: past the last houses, go on for 300 metres, and once at the first fork in the road, go to the right, following the tarmac climbing to the Regio Conservatorio of St Giuseppe and Teresa. Built in 1662 as a convent school for noble girls, according to the tradition, in these places of prayer and contemplation they invented the cuncierto, a unique liqueur from Tramonti, made with herbs.
Past the building on the right, follow the road descending on the left, and then turn on the right. You will get to the Church of Sant’ Erasmo keeping an assembled icon of Saint Mary Magdalene among Saint Anthony and Saint Leonard, and Our Lady of Sorrows with the dead Christ.
From the gate of the church turn right and walk straight on, until you get to the open countryside. At a certain point, the road turns into a dirt road crossing the deep valley and leading to the village of Novella, clustered around the Church of San Bartolomeo, renowned for its cheeses and exquisite ricotta cheese.
Walk along the tarmac for about 200 metres, then take the pedestrian path climbing to the right, near the first bend. In several points the small path turns into a track crossing the cultivated terracing. After fifteen minutes, you will get to the houses of Pendolo: cross the hamlet and go straight on, until you see the church of San Michele. Just before the church, it is well worth detouring: take the steps on the right leading in five minutes to the rock Church of San Michele Arcangelo.
Dating back to VIII and XII century but, according to others, to V century, the church has a magnificent Gothic structure with some Romanic details, and it perfectly respects the natural structure of the cave. In the interior you can still see a partly frescoed small pagan necropolis and two urns dating back to I - II century AD, now kept in the Church of San Michele. Outside there are a small churchyard with some sarcophagi and the ruins of the church of San Marco, destroyed by a flood in 1735.
Once back to the tarmac, leave the church of San Michele Arcangelo to the right and walk for other 300 metres. Then turn on the right into a side road leading to a square. At the end of it some steps go down to the main road for the Valico di Chiunzi (Chiunzi Pass).
Follow the way going down to the fork in the road leading to the hamlet of Polvica, that is our destination. Go past a group of houses and, past the bridge, climb the steps on the right to the tarmac. At the fork in the road (after 800 metres), keep on walking on the left hand side, and climb to the Church of Ascensione, dating back to XII century.
Go on to the next fork in the road, then climb to the left, to a small parking in front of the remains of the church of Madonna del Rosario. Walk on to the right of the church for a few metres to the fork in the road, where the path goes to the right. Little by little you will come across fewer houses, and at the end you will be among some cultivated terracing.
Get to the stream flowing in the valley, where there is a small rest area with a bench and a fountain. Climb some wooden steps and go along the path crossing a wood, to the Church of Sant’ Elia de Satrono in the Hamlet of Patierno Sant'Elia. The simple interior of the church keeps a white marble font, with the coat of arms of Tramonti sculpted on it, that is a moon and some mountains.
Take the tarmac, and after about 450 metres, near a bend to the left, take the small road to the right. Walk straight on along an old path, past a ridge, then into a deep valley, until you get to the following ridge. Now you are at the top of Ponteprimario; the road has a hard ground again, and there are two paths taking to the road in the valley, near the starting point. You can go down to the right, always keeping to the left, or you can go to the right, down among the houses of the hamlet, always keeping on descending. In both cases you will walk past the church of Maria del Principio, to the right. Cross a square, and past some short steps, on the right a bridge leads again to the main road, that is to the starting point.
